my weekend

another monday at work, another weekend gone by.

on friday night i had post work drinks. on the first friday of the month, work splashes out on drinks and chow and everyone heads up to the third level for a bit of a wag. after that i hopped on a train and met cath and her work cronies at a delightfully seedy bar near central station. after that, we met up with the crowd who live in kirribilli and headed off to some drinking spots around sydney, including the oldest bar in sydney, from 1796.

on saturday, i only stumbled out of bed (or rolled onto the floor as i'm still kipping on a mattress on the floor!) at about 11. cath and i then headed off to botany bay for a kiteboarding lesson. i decided that last time i came out of the water blue with cold, i'd better purchase a wetsuit; a very good decision as the water in these parts hovers at a frigid 17 deg. this was the first lesson that i managed to get up on the board, tho somewhat lacking in panache. sitting out in the water, i could hear my german instructor over the static in my radio helmet - 'ok, now ve pull in the bar...' i pull in the bar. at this point i get yanked out of the water, leaving the board behind, to land ungracefully head first into the water a couple of meters away. 'ok, next time, we not pull the bar so hard ok?....'

sunday was spent running around looking at all the sights of sydney open day. on this day, every two years, the sydney historic buildings trust, opens up various places of interest. some of the highlights included the huge vault in the commonwealth bank, and the sydney synagogue, where the guide was not amused when i asked when the christmas decorations were going up…
